Sunshine, cold, and critters
The other day on our way out, we caught Torn Ear sleeping across from old barn. He didn't even get up as the truck went by, he couldn't care less since he knows it's just us.
Remember my last post? Winter reminded us yesterday not to get too excited. We had no power for almost 20 hours. However, that was because of heavy winds, which are the norm around here in the months of February and March. All those puddles to turned to ice, but thankfully we did manage to get enough warm weather to open up a lot of bare ground, so it's not so bad.
We got our generator running in the evening so we had power to cook dinner. In the morning I used the BBQ to cook our coffee, worked just fine!
We got the evaporator unloaded today thankfully. We just have to set it up now, and it's just outside the door, so close to the kitchen for supplies, and close the house for a warm up. Our old camp was not near the house, in sight of it, but across the creek. This will be a lot easier.
Evaporator out of the truck... the pictures in between I couldn't get because I was driving the truck, sorta had to watch what I was doing!
While we worked Flavious lied near by and watched... er... slept.
It was sunny this morning, cold, but the sunshine felt good.
While I was in the barnyard taking pictures of the other animals, Max decided to be my pillow. Jim came and took some pictures but by then, Max just wanted to play, play, play. He loves tackling me, but he never hurts me, or knocks me, he's so gentle about it for his size.
Back at home, Deer Norman was wandering about checking to see what we were up to today....
and his little pal, too...
The sun is warm today, but the air is not, or the slight wind there is, so the boys wore their coats when they went outside for a quick pee break...
Douglas coat we bought in October is going to soon be too small, he's really starting to fill out in the chest more now.
Late afternoon we went out to our rock point, where we haven't been since December. The snow is hard and crunchy on top but once you break through, it's like granulated sugar. It was good walking though because it was rare you broke through.
We saw two different Porcupines out and about....
It was pretty outside, typical late winter, quiet, cold, frozen...
We are all pretty tired. I'm using up the rest of my energy to make chicken and dumplings with mashed potatoes and corn bread... and then I think we'll all be heading to bed early tonight.
