Moose bread

Ahhh Moose bread. For those of you not familiar with it, it's a sweet molasses quick bread, very similar to Boston brown bread. It's a real treat still hot with lots of butter on it, or even cold for a late night snack or with coffee on the go.

You need:

1 cup molasses
1 egg
3 cups flour
1 1/2 tsp baking soda
1 cup sugar
1 tsp salt
1 cup raisins
1/4 + water

Preheat your oven to 350 degrees F.

Beat molasses and egg in a large bowl. Add in baking soda, sugar, and salt, mix well. Slowly add in flour and then raisins. I always find I need to add water to bring this all together, you should be able to "pour" the mixture into your baking dish, but you don't want it too loose, so add a little water at a time just until you have a nice smooth mixture.

Pour into a greased baking dish, (I used a 9x10 pyrex pie pan, but you can also use a loaf pan) and bake for 45 minutes until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.

Got my second oldest grand kid before he went to summer camp by telling him to ask for moose milk and moose eggs for breakfast. He did!

Yes 1 cup of molasses! It is especially tasty because of it :)

Dq, couldn't reply to you through email, but I edited the recipe with the size of the pan for you! Thanks for noticing!

I've never heard of it before, but it looks delicious! I devour bread, so I bet I would love this recipe :)
