Fairbanks trip
Sorry for the long delay in posts! I got completely side tracked with our Fairbanks trip and then right after we got home, we headed for Valdez. I'm going to start with pictures from the trip to Fairbanks and then I'll catch up with our fishing trip to Prince William Sound.
Fairbanks is 200 miles from Tok. At our farm, we make supply runs to Syracuse New York on a regular basis because Kevin also gets medical care there, so it's basically the same thing. It's only about 60 miles longer for the Fairbanks round trip. At home we leave early for Syracuse, go to appointments and then make several stops to stock up on stuff on our list (we do this every couple months.) By the time we shop, cross the border, drive back into the bush to the farm, unpack, and I finish evening chores, it's usually midnight, maybe one AM. It's exhausting.
We broke our Fairbanks trip up into two days, we spent one night in Fairbanks, and yet, it was still exhausting. I hate shopping. I really do. I dislike cities, crowds, the whole works. After about an hour in the city and I'm ready to head for the bush again, we both are.
But we did manage to get almost all the supplies we went for, including part of our water system, and stuff to eventually hook up electricity to our property. We also got things we needed for my small herb garden, groceries that you can't buy in Tok (like leeks, ground pork, among other things) and we stocked up on dog food since the boys can only eat one kind and you certainly cannot buy wellness in Tok.
On Wed night we went out for dinner, we had a nice meal, although long. I indulged in crab stuffed mushrooms, and crab and artichoke gratin. Kevin had a steak. It was a nice break, but we've had our fill of the city for now.
Heading up to Fairbanks from Tok through the burn area from 2010
it was pretty cloudy, as it has been for the past several days
then we saw a Moose!
He stopped before going into the woods..
took a look at us...
then decided he better get outta there!
then I called him, and he stopped to have a look at us anyway, and let me snap a few good pictures of him

It was pretty overcast in Fairbanks but on the way home to Tok, the sun came out so we got a better view of some of the mountains. It's a beautiful drive.
