Guess who came to visit?

It's been a month since we've last seen our little orphan fawn, Buttons. We were not terribly worried because the two does he had been hanging around with were also gone, so we assumed they had wandered off as a group and that his absence wasn't because a coyote had managed to get him.

He showed up today, with his two doe friends, A LOT bigger than the last time I saw him. At first I wasn't positive it was him, but once I got close enough to see his face and the markings on it, I was sure. He's growing nicely and not looking like the scraggly little fawn we saw earlier this winter. He's also not so friendly anymore, he's very standoffish and skittish - which is good. He's been off in the wild learning how to be a deer. It's amazing these does took him on, and they absolutely saved him from ending up like most wild orphans do. He's also a tough little guy, we've always known that.

Maybe next winter he'll come visit us again, maybe even with some new spike antlers.

It was good to see him, and even better to know he's thriving. He's made it through the worst of the winter, soon the snow will melt and things will start to grow again and the easy feasting days off spring and summer, will come for the deer once more.

I miss seeing wildlife in the yard. Our puppies keep them at bay with their barking!
